My name is Tammy.
I live in a semi-rural town in Western Australia. I am a registered counsellor and I run a remote counselling practice with one of my specialisations being food addictions. All my life, as far back as I can remember, I have struggled with my weight. From an early age I was going to dieticians, watching what foods I ate and counting calories. As an adolescent I remember never being able to fit into the cool clothes and being terrified of school sporting events. A lifetime of shame led to disordered eating patterns, eating disorders, unrealistic body image expectations and an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. I was always on one diet or another. They all worked for a little while, but ultimately, I would end up putting weight back on, leading to feelings of failure yet again.
I started on The 1:1 Diet program in 2021 after seeing my sister have great success on it and after yet again regaining weight from the diet I had been following. My Consultant was wonderful. I was upfront about my history of eating disorders, thinking she would turf me out of the room before I had even finished speaking, but she didn’t, and I haven’t looked back since.
I found one of the biggest game changers for me was the support and guidance I was given by my Consultant. She listened, advised and supported my journey, helping me not only to lose and maintain a 15kg weight loss but also to retrain my brain to think differently about food and body image. I really knew I was onto a good thing when I went for my yearly health check and my bloodwork came back with no iron deficiency. This has never happened and even my regular GP was surprised.
I decided to become a Consultant because I want to support others in their weight loss journey. I want other people to remember how to feel good about themselves and have a good relationship with food. Please contact me for a chat if my story resonates with you.
