I started my journey with The 1:1 Diet (or Cambridge Weight Plan as it was then) when I got to the point where it simply wasn’t ok for me to say “I really must lose some weight” in my head, to myself, whenever I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror or got frustrated when I couldn’t find the clothes I wanted, in my size. Being able to openly say to someone that I wanted to lose weight but needed some help, support and some guidance to do so, was scary but also very refreshing. I can’t tell you what a huge relief it was to be able to share that with someone who understood, it simply was amazing!
After a little while, I began to see the weight drop off, so much that I could see and feel the difference. Then would you believe it, others started to notice (after a while you just can’t hide the weight loss – yippee!) and I got compliments. Then as my journey continued, people were more and more supportive of what I was doing. Not judgemental, not opinionated, just old fashioned “good on you”, “you go girl” or simply “you are looking fabulous!”.
I’ve lost over 25kg, the majority of that during the COVID crisis when we have been stuck at home and know that I have to keep working on this to ensure I don’t go backwards. It’s this knowledge that I want to now be able to share with others … and yes, that includes you!
I work in HR, I have spent many years as a volunteer counsellor (focusing on suicide and grief) but now want to do something more one on one and where I don’t just have a snapshot in time with someone but have the opportunity to walk beside them as they go through the weight loss experience and set themselves up for success. I remember (and will never forget) that on my journey there were some tough days, even a few tough weeks where I just seemed to plateau or take a little backwards step, but I came through those, went on to lose more weight, started walking more, then a little jog, then a longer jog ….. don’t get me wrong, I am not a racing snake but that very slow park plodder that you see (please wave or smile, I need all the encouragement!) but am doing that as part of my holistic approach to my new, improved, healthier life and simply wouldn’t be there without taking that first step and having the courage to decide, something had to change. I realised the only person who can put me first was me and I did.
Being on the plan meant I actually gained time – I didn’t have to plan meals, weigh ingredients for recipes in the early steps, so not only was I losing weight, I was gaining time. Then, when it came to a step by step approach to reintroducing food (at a time that was right for me), I began to enjoy not only the novelty of deciding what to eat but of learning what to avoid and to spend a little time cooking something “special” for me. I’ll let you into a secret, it wasn’t really special, it was just healthy!
So, if you want to start your journey, I am here to help, support and guide you. I’ll leave you to get in touch and we’ll take it from there. I look forward to meeting you soon.
